Abigail in Winston-Salem, NC

Just Adopted!

Here is the pup with her new mom...

Abigail is a beautiful Blenheim girl that came into Cavalier Rescue USA over the summer. In her previous life, Abby was solely used for breeding and quite possibly spent most of her life confined in a small restricted space. Her exact age is unknown, but she is believed to be approximately 7 to 8 years young.

Upon entering rescue, Abby was spayed, microchipped, and underwent a thorough dental, all of which she handled with true grace. She  thankfully has no cardiac issues and has tested negative for heart worms. Abby came into rescue with an ear infection in both ears, which has been treated. It's quite possible that her ears were left untreated for quite some time, as her hearing is slightly impaired.

Since coming into rescue, this sweet, spirited girl has grown by leaps and bounds, every day learning to relish her new life as a beloved member of the family. She's a shy girl, but her true Cavalier spirit shines through as she's learning to trust and enjoy the kisses and cuddles that she's so deserving of. She's a happy, kind, patient soul who's tail always shows how happy she always feels.

Abigail comes alive in the presence of other dogs. She is her true self when in the company of other dogs and loves to romp and play, so a home with another playful pup would be important for her continued growth. She's a gentle girl, so another Cavalier or a small friendly furry companion would be the best match for her. Abigail does well with dog-friendly cats as well, she's so easy to get along with. She feels most secure within the boundaries of a fence, so a fenced yard is a must. She still feels timid and insecure with her new freedom so she'll need a family that is patient and able to spend a lot of time with her as she continues this transition.

Potty training is in progress, but kept on a consistent schedule, she does very well. Abby settles into a crate easily and doesn't mind being crated overnight and for short periods during the day. She enjoys car rides and enjoys going on road trips.

Abigail does well with older school-aged children but becomes very nervous around young children and toddlers. She tends to mouth small objects that are a potential choking hazard, so a home with young children is not ideal.
