Penny in Austin, TX

Just Adopted!

Here is Penny with her new mom...

Hi, meet Penelope, or Penny for short. She is a 5-year-old spayed, tricolor female with the most lovable personality. Penny was released from a loving home that could no longer take care of her.

Penny loves to be around people. She is a total snuggle bug who really just wants to be close to her person. To get even closer to her person, she will nearly sit upright to get her head on your shoulder and gaze at your face to show how much she loves being with you. She is really chill and shows no interest in play or exercise. She follows her foster Mom from place to place and snoozes much of the day. She is crate trained, only whimpering initially when crated. She sleeps in her crate at night, but would also be happy on the bed with her owner. She does not know commands and has not been leash trained.

Since being in foster care, she has learned to use the doggy door for her potty breaks. She has had no accidents in the house. While she is totally loving, she can get jealous of her person’s attention; her foster Mom is working with her for this guarding issue. While Penny will happily join her foster’s other dogs when they are with their human, she will growl and bark/snarl at them if they approach Penny when she is near her foster Mom and sometimes without provocation. She does not seem to have the same jealousy of other people. Her guarding might not be an issue for a forever home with no other pets, which is the ideal applicant. Penny’s previous owner reports that she does okay around cats, but this has not been observed while she has been in foster care.

During her initial vet visit, Penny was tested for heartworms (negative); vaccinated for rabies, distemper and parvo; administered a de-wormer; and was microchipped. The vet reported that her heart sounded good, and that she is a healthy Cavalier.

Penny needs someone who will love her, pay attention to her and be willing to work on her possessiveness.
